Respite Service for Children and Adults with an Intellectual Disability

Elizabeth Bowey Lodge was established in November 1981 and has provided respite services to families in the Northern suburbs.

The Elizabeth Bowey Lodge began with a unit in Davoren Park to support families with children with an intellectual disability. Over the last 28 years, the Elizabeth Bowey Lodge has grown and now provides respite to 105 families from the north and north-eastern suburbs.

We have been able to expand to allow us to provide respite for people with an intellectual disability and multiple disabilities and with a variety of respite options. We are now able to provide additional recreational activities and in-home support. We now have 3 units to provide overnight respite.

At Parafield Gardens and Davoren Park there is a children’s unit that caters for children between ages of 7 and 17 years. Davoren Park also has an adult’s unit that caters for those people over the age of 17 years.

Davoren Park also provides one week a month to people with disabilities who have older carers. Specifically allocated funding enables us to provide this service.

Each unit has a vehicle attached to it so that people are able to enjoy their respite by participating in outings and community events.
