Guiding Principles
Every individual with an intellectual disability has a capacity for physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. An individual with an intellectual disability has the same basic rights as other members of society. The interests of both the individual with an intellectual disability and society are best met when living as close as possible to the norms and patterns in the mainstream of society. A child with an intellectual disability needs the same love, affection, care and stimulation as any other child for growth and development. The continued participation of the family in care and oversight, and the involvement of the family and the individual with the intellectual disability in decision making are in the best interests of the individual with an intellectual disability. Specific services and support may be necessary to meet the needs of individuals with an intellectual disability and should be part of a local integrated and coordinated service system. A variety of professional and personal skills are required in service provision and these should be offered in a way which will best meet the needs of the individual with an intellectual disability and their families. Individuals with an intellectual disability have a right to adequate care and protection throughout life and to be free from emotional, physical, social and intellectual neglect and/or abuse. In providing care and support, regard should be given to the least restrictive alternative possible. An individual with an intellectual disability is a member of the community and as such is entitled to acceptance by the community to which that individual and their family belong.

EBL Foundation
The Foundation was formed to help ensure the sustainability of EBL Disability Services. Our primary role is to develop, maintain and manage financial resources from private sources to supplement government funded services through EBL, and foster a range of activities for people with an intellectual disability in conjunction with EBL. The Foundation proudly supports programs run within EBL such as special camps. It also supports activities to enable the sense of community within the EBL family such as carer morning teas and Mother's day and Father's day activities. The Foundation's board is a combination of volunteer members, carers and EBL board members.
